Conceptu Maris’ first public event in Rome

The first public presentation of Life Conceptu Maris (CONservation of CEtaceans and Pelagic sea TUrtles in Med: Managing Actions for their Recovery In Sustainability), the four-year project, will take place on 13 and 14 October 2022 at the Industrie Fluviali multifunctional space in Rome. dedicated to the conservation of Mediterranean cetaceans and turtles and supported by the LIFE program, the financial instrument for the environment of the European Union.

The event will be divided into two days, the first reserved for industry experts, the second open to the public.

On the morning of Thursday 13th the networking session is scheduled, in which Ispra – Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, coordinator of the project, and Triton Research, partner responsible for communication activities, will present LIFE Conceptu Maris to organizations and associations that they take care of other projects related to the protection of the marine world. It will be an opportunity to open a discussion table in which to identify points of convergence and collaboration, and to share information and working methods.

The afternoon of the 13th is dedicated to updating on project activities for the benefit of the Advisory Board, the advisory committee composed of about thirty entities, including national and local authorities, shipping companies, non-governmental organizations and members of the scientific community who operate in defense of the sea. The eleven partners of Conceptu Maris will illustrate to the committee the progress of the activities, the first results, problems and solutions proposed, stimulating discussion and offering ideas for the continuation of the work.

The morning of the 14th is dedicated to the event open to the general public. During the meeting, the project will be presented and the conclusion of the “Deep blue. Whales, dolphins and turtles in the offshore“, launched during the summer and aimed at all those who, during an excursion to the sea, were able to tell with a snapshot the beauty of the biodiversity of our Mediterranean. It will also illustrate how to participate in data collection with the programs dedicated to citizen science envisaged by the project. A final moment will allow an exchange and an open debate with the participants.
