Key areas for the conservation of cetaceans and sea turtles

The Deliverable C1 document of LIFE Conceptu Maris – Identification of important offshore CEPTU areas and risk areas in Western Mediterranean (WMED) and Adriatic and Ionian (ADRION) marine regions – is now available online. It represents one of the most significant scientific outcomes of the project.
The document identifies the most important areas in the Western Mediterranean and Adriatic-Ionian marine regions for the conservation of cetaceans and sea turtles, while also analyzing the zones at highest risk.
Thanks to an integrated approach based on ferry-based observations, environmental data, eDNA, and species distribution models, the report accurately describes habitat use by cetaceans and sea turtles, the pressure from maritime traffic and floating debris, and proposes a vulnerability index to support management decisions.
