Second edition of the photo contest: Deep blue 2023
Until midnight on September 24th, those who photograph the beauty of our sea can participate in the second edition of “Deep blue. Whales, dolphins and turtles in the offshore” linked to LIFE Conceptu Maris (below you can find the regulation).
The initiative is aimed at all those who, during an excursion on a sailing boat or on a day dedicated to whalewatching, are able to tell with a snapshot the beauty of the biodiversity that can still be found in the Mediterranean.
The contest is also open to those who participate in the citizen science activities of LIFE Conceptu Maris which will give many photo opportunities to those who offer themselves as volunteers. Up for grabs are marine-themed books, t-shirts and gadgets related to the project.

3. TEMA
Title: “Deep blue. Whales, dolphins and turtles in the offshore”
The subjects may include, for example, dolphins photographed during a whale watching trip, as well as turtles in trouble for a line around a fin. The animals must have been portrayed in the Mediterranean and captive subjects are not allowed.

5. TYPE OF IMAGES
Participation in the Contest is open to everyone. Each author can submit a maximum total number of 3 shots (hereinafter also only the “Work” or the “Works” or “Images”).
Works in Jpg format are admitted to the competition, with the long side of at least 2,000 pixels. Raw photos are not allowed.
The images can be either in color or in black and white. Normal color, tone, contrast, saturation and level corrections are allowed. Photomontages, retouching, removal or addition of key elements are not allowed. Furthermore, frames, dates, signatures and writings superimposed on the photos are not allowed. The works at the time of registration must not have obtained prizes or mentions in photographic competitions.
Each author is personally responsible for the subject of the work presented and its description, relieving the organizers of any responsibility. Participation in the competition implies that the images sent do not infringe any third party rights. The author of the photograph therefore guarantees that he has obtained the necessary authorization for images depicting people and / or things for which it is necessary to obtain specific consent.
6. SENDING THE IMAGES
The photographs must be sent by email or via WeTransfer to the following address:
Each work must be numbered, bear the initials of the author’s name and surname and have a title (for example, Mario Rossi, photo n.1 relating to a dolphin will be: MR_Dolphin_1).
The deadline for acceptance of the images sent is h.23.59 of 24th September 2023.
The images awarded in the 2022 edition of “Deep blue” cannot participate in the competition.
7. RIGHTS
The ownership and rights of the Images belong to the authors, who grant Triton Research Srl the right of use and free publication – online and offline – of the Works presented, with the obligation to indicate the author’s name. The latter authorizes Triton Research Srl to publish and disseminate the Images for purposes related to the Competition, its communication and promotion, such as catalog, calendar and website (with watermark, if required), for exhibitions or for other cultural purposes.
Triton Research Srl may not in any way transfer the rights of use to third parties, nor use the images of the authors for profit.
Each author declares to be the exclusive owner of the copyright on the Images and is personally responsible for the subject of the work presented and its description, relieving Triton Research Srl from any liability. Participation in the competition implies that the images sent do not infringe any third party rights. The author of the Images therefore guarantees that he has obtained the necessary authorization for the Images depicting people and / or things for which specific consent is required, relieving Triton Research Srl from any liability.
8. JURY
The jury, which will evaluate the works, will be composed as follows:
- Francesco Tomasinelli, Communication Manager of the LIFE Conceptu Maris project, Triton Research, naturalist and photographer
- Antonella Servidio, Project Manager, Triton Research, biologist
- Giulia Luzi, Project Assistant, Triton Research, biologist
- Francesco Passarelli, ISPRA
The jury’s decision is final and unappealable for all purposes. The evaluation takes into consideration the technical aspects of the images (composition, quality of the file, sharpness) and those relating to the natural sciences (uniqueness of the situation, rarity of the species portrayed).
9. AWARDS
Among all the works presented, the jury will choose 3 works for each category (classified as first, second and third)
- The winner will receive the volume “Practical guide to whale watching. The observation of cetaceans, fish, turtles and birds in the sea” by Gabriella Motta (awarded last year) and Alessandra Somà, the t-shirt and some project gadgets.
- The runner-up will receive the t-shirt and some project gadgets.
- The third place will receive some project gadgets.
Prizes will be sent directly to the winner.
10. PRIVACY
The provision of all data requested by the interested parties is an indispensable prerequisite for participation in the competition. The aforementioned personal data will be processed – in compliance with EU Regulation 2016/679 (G.D.P.R.) – with paper and IT tools, in order to guarantee their security and confidentiality, exclusively for the purposes of participating in this contest, or for the identification of winners and the identification of the authors of the photos on the various occasions in which they will be exhibited or published. It will be possible at any time to exercise the rights referred to in Chapter III of the G.D.P.R., such as requesting the rectification, updating, deletion of data. The interested party has the possibility to exercise the rights provided by the G.D.P.R. The data controller is Triton Research S.r.l. Via Alessandro Scarlatti 8 – 80129 Naples.
11. FINAL PROVISIONS
Participation in the competition implies knowledge and acceptance of these regulations.
